Introduction

Greetings! Welcome to my blog. In this space I plan to showcase some of the tools I’ve worked with and a small set of referece projects I’ve worked on in the past. Keep in mind that this blog has two versions; https://give.ivo.coffee - a public version with less details and less projects https://meet-ivo.pro - full site, only accessible with invite This website is created using Hugo and access protected by Cloudflare. Page enumeration should not be possible. If you find something that you think should not be here, please let me know.

    Hardware

Hardware Evolution for Air Horn Project Hardware V0: Initial Prototype The first prototype utilized a simple setup with: Small Lead-Acid Battery: Served as the power source. Battery Balancer: Ensured the battery’s cells were evenly charged. Fuse Box: Provided overcurrent protection. Relay and Push-Button: Used to trigger the horn manually. This version was functional but limited in scalability and convenience. Hardware V1: Upgraded Design The second iteration transitioned to a more robust and modular setup:

    Deploying

To quickly deliver value with Robot Framework, it is essential to streamline the development, validation, and deployment processes for Python or Robot code. Given the current tension between the open-source Robot Framework project and its former sponsor RoboCorp/Sema4ai, no commercial IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) platform exists to rapidly deploy Robot code.

    Tesla Horn Overview

Fun side project to get a full compressor powered truck air-horn into a Tesla without making ANY modification to the car. Based on several horror-stories on Reddit it did not seem like a good plan to tap into any of the onboard systems on a Tesla vehicle. This means no CAN-bus to control the air horn, no drilling holes for control wires and not even connecting to the onboard 12 volt low-voltage system.

    Email processing

For this client, we developed a robot to automate a specific routine in their ERP system, triggered by each new customer request. While the company acknowledged that this issue could potentially be addressed as a software feature or enhancement, they had already decided to phase out the ERP system after the current travel season. Investing further in the software through the vendor was deemed both costly and unnecessary. Background Challenges Faced by the Client High Manual Effort: Approximately 80 employees spent up to two hours daily performing repetitive tasks manually in the ERP system. Software Limitations: Although a vendor solution might have been more optimized, the high cost and planned software decommissioning ruled out this option. Urgency: The company needed an immediate, cost-effective solution to reduce manual workload during the busy travel season. Solution Overview Automation with RPA Our robot automated the entire routine, enabling it to:

    EV Display Hardware

EV Display: Enclosure and LED Design The EV Display aims to resemble a D-cell battery. Early prototypes focused on design constraints driven by the availability of off-the-shelf components, including 8x8 and 16x16 flexible arrays of WS2812 individually addressable RGB LEDs.

    Overview of EV Display

Introduction to the EV-Display Project The EV-Display project is, first and foremost, a hands-on learning experience, born out of a desire to immerse myself in fascinating technologies and tools that I’ve long wanted to explore. This initiative aims to serve as a stepping stone, enabling me to develop skills, refine my engineering acumen, and, within a year, establish a clear career path for the years ahead. To anchor this journey, I’ve chosen an ambitious yet purposeful goal: the development and launch of an IoT device designed to connect with Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and home battery systems. This device will display their state of charge (SoC) and incorporate a rotary button for intuitive configuration and basic functionalities, such as remotely triggering climate control or adjusting the target SoC.

    DIY Epoch Clock Overview

This project stems from extensive work with epoch timestamps while using Splunk. Many applications store time in epoch notation, which led me to frequently convert between epoch time and standard formats. This inspired the idea to build a retro-style clock that displays the current date and time in epoch format.
